Both girls were up until 5:00am this morning!
I am thinking Jack and I are really failing in the parent department when it comes to bedtime. I have never established a bedtime routine for the girls so it mostly falls on me. But do you know how hard it is to get TWO baby's down for bed all alone! I would love to know how other twin mom's do it. I know it's something I should have started when they were 1 week old! I honestly don't remember what routine we had back then! (HINT HINT Laura :) ) The girls were asleep by 9:00 last night and when Jack got home he carried Gracie up to bed (that would be her pack and play) she started screaming! And then she was up!- Of course Hannah hears her and gets up to. So I went on to bed since I had to work and they all sat up watching TV and playing until 5:00AM! Jack had to turn the TV off to get them to finally go to sleep! It's like they are baby's again and have their days and nights mixed up. They like to "cat" nap!
Another thing we have failed on is bottles- the girls will be 15 months old on Friday and they still get 3 bottles a day! (I know there are a lot of mothers out there gasping right now) I can't break them all by myself so until my husband and mother in-law help me there is not point in trying to break them on the 2 days a week I am off. I am sure the doctor will be thrilled with us at the 15 month check up.
So there you have it- a failure entry all about 2 new parents that are failing- can you give me any suggestions? email me: sarah_lynn_88ATyahooDOTcom

Awe, don't feel like a failure. Camden was on 3 bottles a day for months and months. You're doing fine. As far as the bedtime routine, they are probably just confused because one parent goes to bed at night and the other is up all night. Maybe your doctor can advise you on what to do in a situation like that?
If it makes you feel any better, I feel like a complete failure as a parent this week, too. My almost 3 year old refuses to drink regular milk, only chocolate milk. WE've been trying to potty train him and he downright REFUSES to do it. He's stubborn as a mule!!!
Sarah, you are so not failing as parents. Olivia refused to give up the bottle by a year old. I didn't force it either--especially because her baby sister was only a month old. There was no way, I would give the baby a bottle and not her. Eventually, as the baby started drinking from a sippy cup, so did she. At one point, I would only give her the bottle if she were at home...but really what is the big deal? Don't beat yourself up over it....they are only babies once--they grow up so quickly and those "baby times" are long gone before you know it. One day you'll look back and not even be able to recall whether or not they were on the bottle at that time.

PS About the bedtime....I did the putting the babies to bed and letting them cry and going in every ten minutes to console them--10 minutes feels like forever though--but they were almost always asleep by 20 minutes and within a week they were asleep before the 10 minutes. It is heartbreaking at first. Also, a big tip I heard was to get rid of the baby monitor--I used to jump every time I heard one of them cry--and that made it worse. For instance last night I heard Kristen crying--my first reaction was to go into her room--but I always use the 5 minute rule--and it is very rare that she doesn't put herself back to sleep. Of course, with two of them it is very hard...especially when Kristen goes to sleep much easier than Olivia. It is so cute to listen to them playing with their lullabys and talking to each other. But I make them go into bed together. More often than not, Olivia climbs out of her bed and comes into bed with me at some point during the night--but I don't care, I would never not allow her to sleep with me. She does have to go to bed in her room though at night. Good luck--it will all work out and it is no big deal. I think I told you this already--both of my sons slept with us until they were probably 11. They always slept in our bed, but when they got a little older and had their own rooms--they would always come into our room. It was completely "normal" for us. Mommy, Daddy, Robert and Ryan...all in bed every morning. When they turned 11ish..they started sleeping in their own rooms by their own choice...believe me they grow up fast and they won't be sleeping with you forever. Unless it bothers YOU and JACK--I wouldn't let anyone make me feel guilty about it. (((HUGS))) Debi (C2L)
Bedtime - man, it took a long time to create a routine for Bryan, but basically our routine is to let him play until 7pm, take him into his room and turn on his white noise machine that Grandma gave us, and then lay him down and leave the room. It took quite a few nights of screaming before he caught on that this was For Real, and now he goes down without a fight. The time was just a random choice - I know other parents that let their babies stay up much later, and those kids haven't knocked anyone off yet, so I assume that the time doesn't matter.
Bottles - Bryan just quit drinking them. He still liked that first bottle in the morning, but as for the rest of them, he'd just fling them away. He's happily drinking from a sippy cup now, and has recently discovered that if he tips it up, he can get more liquid from it. Don't stress about when you should get rid of the bottle - if you haven't already, start them with sippy cups and see where it leads. They'll pick it up quick, especially when they are getting juice (we use the Gerber Fruit Splashers, which are juice and water mixed, but that's because we are LAZY, people).
Just work with your doctor and your own instincts. Your girls are way ahead of what Bryan is doing - when I read your posts around the time they were a year old, I see a lot of things that Bryan isn't doing and that the girls were. They all do things in their own time, and you can't really compare. You guys are doing a great job!
