I am bring the blog back, I want to document things that I will want to revisit years from now. Both girls have summer internships, it's so weird being a mom to girls that are 20 but in my head I JUST gave birth to them yesterday.
Hannah's entry is first...
She has an amazing intership in Washington D.C. for 10 weeks, we took her there on Saturday, MAY 24. When we pulled away I had to hold it together and not cry. I hate leaving my child in such a big city. We didn't get to spend a lot of time there because well, poor planning on our part and parking there is HORRID! But while we were walking her back to her apartment from lunch she told me that when they went there in 8th grade she told Grace, "I will live here some day!" And there is she for 10 weeks, which I think will be the test run on if she goes back once she is done with her senior year at University of Dayton. She is still undecided what her path really is, she still thinks about law school, but also has a passion and love for the government sector and may just need to grad school. Which is why I say this summer will be the test for her, I think she will know quickly if she wants to stay in the government sector after a few weeks with this internship.
I think she knew my mom heart needed to hear from her today, it was her first day of the internship. I got a video of her "first day outfit" which made my heart burst with pride, she looked so professional and put together. She then called me while walking to the train station, "Mom, I think I met my future husband today" the excitement in her voice was reassuring that she is EXACTLY where she needs to be. Do I miss her? Yes, but damn she has goals and I have a gut feeling she is going to do big things with the goals. It's a good thing there is a direct flight to D.C. from Dayton, because we may need to go there often in the future.
I wish I could write about what she is actually doing there, but if I am being honest, I get so lost in her excitement when she tells me, I am just in awe that my child is doing such big things. As someone who struggled all through school watching her do what she has done just blows my mind. She doesn't know it, but she is inspiring me to get healthy so I can be here on this earth as long as I can to watch what she does. She may need a campaign manger someday, and there isn't anyone else more trusting than her momma, right?
When they were in high school they use to get so mad at me when I would say "I wondered...." they thought I was being nosey I think, but as their mom, I honestly "wonder" about them 1,000x a day!
Some of today's wonders:
- Did she pack a lunch
- Did she make it to the train station OK all alone?
- Did she make any new friends at work?
- Did she remember to take her glasses with her?
- Did she pack her heels and remember to wear tennis shoes for all the walking?
