What do Doctors know?

What do doctors know?

The girls doctor (we will call him doc) told us on Friday that it was US that had a problem with the bottles NOT the girls. Doc said it's our bad habit and breaking them would be easy! Well Doc is full of SHIT! We honestly have tried and yesterday was the first real day they would have had NO bottles. They did fine all day (as I would have expected) but ten o'clock came last night and all hell broke loose!

We had hid the bottles (even left the cabinet open so the girls could see the bottles were gone) but Hannah started pacing the kitchen she would go from the cabinet to the fridge over and over trying to get me to give in. I finally got her to the living room and quickly put the baby gate up. This was NOT a good idea! She had a fit! And I never in her little life seen her act this way. She threw her self on the floor and was just screaming! (almost like she was dying!) If Gracie or I touched her it made her madder! So after 20 minutes (give or take a few) I gave in and let them have bottles! What is a mom to do? I told Jack it's some what rude and mean that we made them quit COLD TURKEY! (Yea I know it probably works for some mom's but not this one) So we are getting night time bottles and we will work from there. I have to say when Gracie seen her bottle that night she literally jumped up off the ground and clapped her hands! It was the CUTEST thing you have ever seen! It was like she and her bottle were re-uniting!

Hannah has NOT been the same since she is acting very different. She is always mad and bites Gracie and has bit me and tried to bite Jack! It's NOT the Hannah we know! So my point is- My Doctor doesn't KNOW my kid I DO! And I don't think she is ready to be off the bottle. It doesn't help she is cutting 4 teeth right now!

I'm thinking if it's this hard to get them off bottles they will be 10 before they give up their nuks!

If non of this makes sense I'm sorry I have been writing this over a course of 3 days! :)

If it makes you feel any better, my son still has milk at bedtime. It's not in a bottle, but a sippy cup, but he refuses to go to sleep without it. He's almost 3 and I really don't care as long as he's happy.

Sarah, I disagree with that doctor as well. It seems that everyone has a different opinion on the subject. I am thankful that my doctor does not simply follow the guidelines but looks at each of my kids individually. The real important issue with taking the bottle to bed is their teeth. If you are sure they aren't falling asleep with it in their mouth, then they will be fine. I let all of the kids go to bed with their bottle, but they drank it and then rolled over and went to sleep. Liv was definitely the hardest--but she gave it up after a while--it does get easier. The pacifier is hard. I am trying to wean Kristen off of it now. I have only been giving it to her before she goes to bed. There are times thought that she really needs it. It comforts her and calms her down and that is all that matters to me. Mommy's know best.
